UNDP Saudi Arabia Accelerator Lab

We are working to explore food waste issues in Saudi Arabia by designing experiments and scaling up grassroot innovations to shift the paradigm.

The UNDP Saudi Arabia Accelerator Lab is part of the second cohort of 31 Labs that started operation in late 2020. Our Lab was launched in November 2021. We aspire to redefine development and bring positive change to our community by listening to grassroots solutions, exploring diverse data sources and designing experimentation to acquire empirical evidence.

We are exploring leverage points to intervene in the food waste system. We explore future pathways that are scalable and sustainable in line with the country's Vision2030, by applying community mapping which determines key stakeholders and supports informative data collection. We use behavioral insights to understand key drivers and the causality of food waste, and we use co-creation and participatory design to find innovative solutions. We intend to prototype and experiment to demonstrate the social dynamics in food waste. The Lab has initiated discussions around food waste to shed light on its importance and we do this by bringing innovative ideas and approaches, as well as identifying what solutions are on the horizon.
